1953 Topps #24 Ferris Fain PSA 7 – A Two-Time Batting Champion with a Fiery Edge

By 1953, Ferris Fain was already a two-time American League batting champion (1951, 1952) and known as one of the best contact hitters of his era. A patient hitter with an elite eye for the strike zone, Fain won his first batting title in 1951 with a .344 average, then followed it up with another crown in 1952, hitting .327 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In addition to his hitting prowess, he was an excellent defensive first baseman, routinely ranking among the league leaders in fielding percentage. Fain’s intensity and tough-as-nails personality sometimes got him into trouble, but there was no denying his ability to hit and get on base—he retired with a .290 career batting average and a .424 career on-base percentage, one of the best in baseball history.

This 1953 Topps #24 Ferris Fain is a stunning PSA 7 example, preserving the bold hand-painted portrait that makes the 1953 Topps set one of the most iconic in the hobby. The centering is solid, the corners remain sharp for the grade, and the surface retains excellent color and clarity, making this a fantastic example of one of baseball’s best hitters. The deep green and yellow hues of the Athletics uniform pop beautifully against the background, capturing the vintage appeal of the era.
