1914 Cracker Jack #75 Miller Huggins PSA 2.5 - Before Murderers’ Row, There Was Huggins the Player
Long before Miller Huggins became the legendary manager of Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees, he was an accomplished Major League player in his own right. The 1914 Cracker Jack #75 captures Huggins during his playing days with the St. Louis Cardinals, where the undersized second baseman earned a reputation for intelligence, patience at the plate, and an exceptional understanding of the game. Against Cracker Jack’s unmistakable red backdrop, it is a fascinating early image of a man whose greatest baseball chapter was still ahead.
Graded PSA GOOD+ 2.5, this example carries more than 110 years of genuine pre-war character. The 1914 Cracker Jacks were famously distributed directly inside packages of the caramel-coated snack, making stains, creases, surface wear, and general handling nearly unavoidable. That difficult origin is part of what makes surviving examples so compelling today, and Huggins adds considerably more historical weight than the typical player found deeper in the checklist.
Huggins would eventually trade the diamond for the dugout and become one of the architects of the first great Yankees dynasty. Managing New York from 1918 through 1929, he guided Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and company to six American League pennants and three World Series championships, including the legendary 1927 Murderers’ Row club.
