1952 Topps #70 Al Zarilla PSA 4 - From St. Louis Standout to Boston Veteran
The 1952 Topps #70 Al Zarilla features the veteran outfielder near the end of a Major League career that included one of the finest seasons ever produced by a member of the St. Louis Browns. Known as “Zeke,” Zarilla developed into an excellent all-around hitter after World War II, combining a high average with surprising extra-base production.
Graded PSA VG-EX 4, this card pictures Zarilla as a member of the Boston Red Sox. By the time Topps issued the card, he was an established veteran with more than a decade of Major League experience, giving #70 the feel of a late-career portrait rather than an introduction to a rising player.
Zarilla’s signature season came in 1948, when he batted .329 with 12 home runs, 74 RBI, and 95 runs for St. Louis, earning his first of two All-Star selections. He ultimately collected more than 1,000 hits across a 10-year Major League career with the Browns, Red Sox, and White Sox. The 1952 Topps Al Zarilla PSA 4 looks back on a player whose peak came in St. Louis—a two-time All-Star captured by Topps as his big-league journey approached its final innings.
