1952 Topps #98 Bill Pierce PSA 7 - A Young Ace on the South Side

The 1952 Topps #98 Billy Pierce catches one of the American League’s great left-handers just as his career was beginning to take off. Still only 25 years old, Pierce had already secured a place in the Chicago White Sox rotation, but the sustained run of dominance that would make him a franchise legend was only beginning.

This example is especially impressive, graded PSA NM 7. Pierce broke through in a major way during the 1952 season, going 15–12 while posting a superb 2.57 ERA across 219.2 innings. The strong PSA 7 grade pairs beautifully with the timing of the card—an outstanding example issued precisely as Pierce was developing into one of baseball’s premier southpaws.

Pierce went on to become a seven-time All-Star, twice lead the American League in ERA, and record 211 career victories with 1,999 strikeouts. He was also the ace of the celebrated 1959 “Go-Go” White Sox, helping Chicago capture its first American League pennant in 40 years. The 1952 Topps Billy Pierce PSA 7 is an early card of a Chicago icon at an important moment—the ace was emerging, and his best years were still ahead.
