1974 Topps #39 Bill Walton PSA 6 – Rookie Card of a Transformative Big Man
The 1974 Topps release introduced the hobby to one of basketball’s most unique and brilliant minds—Bill Walton, fresh off a legendary college career at UCLA under John Wooden. As the No. 1 overall pick in the 1974 NBA Draft, Walton entered the league with sky-high expectations. Though injuries would plague much of his career, he still managed to redefine the center position with his court vision, passing, and basketball IQ, leading the Trail Blazers to their only NBA title in 1977 and earning a league MVP in 1978.
This PSA 6 example of Walton’s iconic rookie card presents sharp eye appeal with rich color and solid overall image clarity. The Topps design features a young Walton in his Trail Blazers uniform, mid-portrait, backed by bold red accents that pop on the vintage card stock. The card shows moderate corner wear and some light surface touches consistent with the grade, but remains an excellent mid-grade copy of one of the most important rookie issues of the 1970s.
