T206 Piedmont 350 Barney Pelty – Vertical PSA 4 – The Yiddish Curver

A sharp mid-grade example from the iconic 1909–1911 T206 tobacco card series, the most celebrated pre-war baseball set ever produced. Distributed through cigarette packs by the American Tobacco Company, the release captured the players of baseball's Deadball Era — including figures who brought dimensions to the game far beyond the box score.

Barney Pelty was nicknamed "The Yiddish Curver" — a nod to both his Jewish heritage and the devastating breaking ball that anchored his arsenal — and he was one of the first openly Jewish players in the American League, making no effort to hide his heritage at a time when many did. His curveball was good enough to produce a career 2.63 ERA that stands among the lowest ever compiled by a Jewish pitcher in history. In 1906 he posted a league-best 1.59 ERA for the St. Louis Browns, yet won only 16 games — a testament to a career spent pitching brilliantly for one of baseball's most persistently weak-hitting clubs.

This example features the "Vertical" pitching pose paired with the Piedmont 350 advertising reverse and carries a PSA VG-EX 4 grade, offering strong overall eye appeal with moderate vintage wear appropriate for a century-old tobacco card. A piece with genuine personality, from one of the early game's most distinctive figures.
