1909-11 T206 Piedmont Chief Myers - Meyers, Fielding PSA VG-EX 4
T206 Piedmont Chief Myers – Meyers, Fielding PSA 4 – Behind the Plate with Mathewson
A desirable mid-grade example from the landmark 1909–1911 T206 tobacco card issue, the most celebrated pre-war baseball set in the hobby. Issued by the American Tobacco Company through cigarette packs, the set captured the players of baseball's competitive Deadball Era in vibrant, richly colored lithographic detail.
Chief Meyers appears here in the pose that most defined his professional legacy — behind the plate, framed in the crouch of a working catcher. As the personal backstop of Christy Mathewson and the anchor of John McGraw's catching corps, Meyers was one of the most trusted and technically refined catchers of the Deadball Era. His ability to study opposing hitters, manage a pitching staff, and produce at the plate made him a near-complete player at the most demanding position on the field. The T206 set honored him with two separate poses — a distinction reserved for only the game's most significant figures.
This example features the "Fielding" pose paired with the Piedmont advertising reverse and carries a PSA VG-EX 4 grade, offering strong overall eye appeal with moderate vintage wear appropriate for a tobacco card more than a century old. The companion piece to the Batting variation — and together, a portrait of one of the Deadball Era's most complete catchers.
