1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal Ray Demmitt - New York PSA VG-EX 4
T206 Sweet Caporal Ray Demmitt – New York PSA 4 – From the Highlanders to the Heartland
From the iconic 1909–1911 T206 tobacco card release, the foundational set of pre-war baseball collecting. Produced by the American Tobacco Company and inserted into cigarette packs, these colorful lithographs preserved the players of baseball's Deadball Era with vivid, lasting artistry.
Ray Demmitt broke into the major leagues with the New York Highlanders in 1909, making his debut in the city that would soon become home to the Yankees dynasty. Though a journeyman outfielder by most measures — spending the majority of his major league time with the St. Louis Browns — Demmitt was a reliable presence in all three outfield spots, occasionally surfacing among the league leaders in extra-base categories. His New York variation in the T206 set is the standard common, distinct from the rare St. Louis Polar Bear version that commands significant collector interest.
This example features the New York designation paired with the Sweet Caporal advertising reverse and carries a PSA VG-EX 4 grade, presenting solidly with appealing overall eye appeal for a tobacco card well over a century old. A clean representative of the Highlanders roster at the dawn of baseball's most formative decade.
