T206 Sweet Caporal Wild Bill Donovan – Throwing PSA 4 – Detroit's Fiery Pennant Ace

A strong mid-grade representative from the celebrated 1909–1911 T206 tobacco card series, the most important pre-war baseball set ever produced. Distributed through cigarette packs by the American Tobacco Company, the set documents the players of baseball's gritty Deadball Era with vibrant, enduring lithographic artwork.

"Wild Bill" Donovan earned his legendary nickname on two fronts — for the bases on balls that trailed him through the league and for the fiery temperament that got him ejected from more games than perhaps any pitcher of his era. But behind that volatility was a pitching talent of genuine distinction. Donovan was a key figure on Detroit's three consecutive American League pennant winners from 1907 to 1909, posting a remarkable 25–4 record in 1907 that led the AL in winning percentage. He was equally dominant in 1908, winning 18 with a sparkling 2.08 ERA, and even managed to steal 26 career bases — the most by any pitcher in Tigers history. He later managed the New York Yankees and died tragically in a train crash in December 1923.

This example features the dynamic "Throwing" action pose paired with the Sweet Caporal advertising reverse and carries a PSA VG-EX 4 grade, offering strong overall eye appeal and pleasing presentation for a tobacco card more than a century old. An action-pose collectible tied to one of the most colorful arms of the Deadball Era.
