1914 Cracker Jack #108 Sherwood R. Magee PSA 3 - The Slugger Who Ruled Philadelphia
The 1914 Cracker Jack #108 Sherwood R. Magee features one of the most dangerous hitters of the Deadball Era. Best remembered for his long tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies, Magee combined power, speed, and run production at a level few players of his generation could match. His portrait against the brilliant Cracker Jack red creates a particularly striking image, preserving a genuine star of the era in one of pre-war collecting’s most celebrated sets.
Graded PSA VG 3, this example offers impressive character and preservation more than 110 years after its release. The original 1914 Cracker Jacks were distributed directly inside packages of the caramel-coated snack, making staining, creasing, and surface wear persistent challenges. A solid VG example like this maintains the vintage appearance collectors want while representing a card that survived one of the hobby’s most unforgiving methods of distribution.
Magee’s résumé deserves considerably more attention than it often receives today. He captured the 1910 National League batting title with a .331 average, led the league in RBIs four times, and topped the NL in slugging percentage and total bases multiple times during his prime. He eventually finished with 2,169 hits, 441 stolen bases, and a .291 lifetime average, numbers that place him among the finest players of his era who remain outside Cooperstown.
