1914 Cracker Jack #19 Chief Bender PSA GOOD+ 2.5
1914 Cracker Jack #19 Chief Bender PSA 2.5 - The Chief in Cracker Jack Red
The 1914 Cracker Jack #19 Chief Bender brings a genuine Deadball Era ace into one of pre-war collecting’s most iconic sets. Bender was already a championship-tested star by the time this card appeared, having anchored Connie Mack’s powerhouse Philadelphia Athletics alongside fellow Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank. His composed portrait against the blazing red Cracker Jack background makes this one of the more compelling Hall of Fame subjects in the 144-card issue.
Graded PSA GOOD+ 2.5, this example carries the unmistakable character of an original 1914 Cracker Jack. Unlike the 1915 issue, these cards were distributed directly inside packages of Cracker Jack, exposing them to caramel staining, creasing, handling, and surface wear from day one. On a Hall of Famer of Bender’s stature, even a well-traveled survivor has tremendous appeal—particularly from an issue now more than 110 years old.
Bender was at his best when the games mattered most. He helped Philadelphia capture three World Series championships, won 212 Major League games, and authored a no-hitter in 1910 before eventually earning induction into Cooperstown. He was also a member of the White Earth Nation, becoming one of the most prominent Native American players in early Major League Baseball history.
