1914 Cracker Jack #4 Larry Doyle PSA 2 - The Captain of McGraw’s Giants

The 1914 Cracker Jack #4 Larry Doyle features one of the central figures of the great New York Giants clubs of the Deadball Era. Known as “Laughing Larry,” Doyle was John McGraw’s hard-hitting second baseman and eventually served as team captain, bringing unusual offensive production to a position not typically associated with big bats. Cracker Jack’s brilliant red backdrop gives Doyle a striking presentation, while the low #4 position places him right near the beginning of this legendary checklist.

Graded PSA GOOD 2, this example survives from the far more condition-sensitive first year of Cracker Jack baseball. The 1914 cards were distributed directly inside packages of Cracker Jack, leaving them exposed to caramel staining, handling, creases, and surface wear from the moment they reached collectors. More than a century later, that original method of distribution has become an essential part of the set’s charm—and why authentic 1914 survivors carry such unmistakable pre-war character.

Doyle was a legitimate star in his day, winning the 1912 National League MVP Award and later capturing the 1915 batting title with a .320 average. He also helped New York reach three consecutive World Series from 1911 through 1913 and finished his career with more than 1,800 hits.
