1934 Goudey #82 Bill Hallahan PSA NM-MT 8
Wild Bill and the Gashouse Gang
Few pitchers embodied the competitive spirit of the early 1930s St. Louis Cardinals quite like Bill “Wild Bill” Hallahan. A hard-throwing left-hander with an intimidating presence on the mound, Hallahan was an important figure in the Cardinals’ rise to National League prominence. His 1934 Goudey #82 arrived during one of the franchise’s most memorable seasons, as the legendary Gashouse Gang marched toward another World Series championship.
Graded PSA NM-MT 8, this is a tremendous high-grade example from Goudey’s celebrated 1934 production. The issue is instantly recognizable for its colorful player illustrations and the famous “Lou Gehrig Says…” and “Chuck Klein Says…” endorsements appearing across the set. Hallahan’s card belongs to the final portion of the 96-card checklist, pairing the distinctive artwork of the Goudey era with an impressive Near Mint-Mint designation. For collectors assembling high-grade examples of this historic issue, a PSA 8 of a Cardinals championship pitcher is a particularly appealing addition.
Hallahan’s greatest accomplishments came during the Cardinals’ championship years. He led the National League in strikeouts in 1930 and 1931, topped the league with 19 victories in 1931, and delivered one of his finest performances in the 1931 World Series, winning two games against the Philadelphia Athletics, including the decisive Game 7. He later added another championship with the 1934 Cardinals, finishing his Major League career with 102 victories and two World Series rings. The 1934 Goudey Bill Hallahan PSA 8 brings together an exceptional grade, one of the hobby’s most recognizable prewar designs, and a pitcher who helped define the Cardinals’ first great championship era.
