1952 Topps #106 Mickey Vernon PSA 7 - The Two-Time Batting King of Washington

Long before the Washington Senators became the Minnesota Twins, Mickey Vernon was one of the franchise’s most accomplished and dependable stars. A graceful left-handed hitter with a smooth swing and a remarkable ability to put the ball in play, Vernon established himself as one of the American League’s premier first basemen during the 1940s and 1950s. His 1952 Topps #106 features the veteran Washington standout at an interesting point in his career, already a former batting champion and just one season removed from another of his greatest offensive achievements.

Graded PSA NM 7, this is an impressive Near Mint example from Topps’ landmark 1952 production. The strong grade gives this card particular appeal within the historic 407-card checklist, offering a desirable level of preservation for an issue now more than seven decades old. Vernon's appearance at #106 showcases one of Washington's most recognizable players, and the PSA 7 designation makes this a particularly attractive representation of a player whose accomplishments deserve greater recognition among collectors.

Vernon's finest seasons were remarkable. In 1946, he captured his first American League batting title with a .353 average, and in 1953, he claimed his second crown by batting .337, narrowly edging Al Rosen in one of the league's most memorable batting races. Over 20 Major League seasons, Vernon collected 2,495 hits, 172 home runs, and 1,311 RBI, earning seven All-Star selections while establishing himself as one of the finest defensive first basemen of his era.
