1952 Topps #117 Sherman Lollar PSA 7 - The Man Behind the Go-Go Sox

Before the Chicago White Sox captured the imagination of baseball fans with their legendary 1959 American League pennant, one of the most important pieces of that championship team was already taking his place behind the plate. Sherman Lollar, a gifted defensive catcher with a powerful bat, joined Chicago in 1952 and would become one of the most respected backstops in the American League. His 1952 Topps #117 arrived at the beginning of this defining chapter, featuring a player who would spend the next decade establishing himself as one of the finest catchers in White Sox history.

Graded PSA NM 7, this is an outstanding Near Mint example from Topps' historic inaugural 1952 production. The impressive grade offers a desirable level of preservation for a card more than seven decades old, making it a particularly attractive addition to the celebrated 407-card checklist. Lollar's appearance at #117 carries added significance as an early Topps issue of a player whose greatest accomplishments were still ahead of him. The PSA 7 designation combines strong vintage preservation with the appeal of an important catcher from one of baseball's most memorable American League clubs.

Lollar went on to enjoy an accomplished 18-year Major League career, earning seven All-Star selections and three Gold Glove Awards while collecting 1,415 hits, 155 home runs, and 808 RBI. His finest offensive season came in 1959, when he hit 22 home runs and drove in 84 runs, helping lead the celebrated “Go-Go Sox” to their first American League pennant since 1919.
