The 1952 Topps #4 Don Lenhardt continues the opening sequence of Topps’ landmark first major set, featuring the hard-hitting Detroit Tigers outfielder against one of the issue’s unmistakably colorful backgrounds. Lenhardt had already established himself as a legitimate power threat, launching 22 home runs as a rookie with the St. Louis Browns in 1950 before making his way to Detroit.
Graded PSA EX-MT 6, this example features the Black Back variation, one of the two reverse styles found throughout the early portion of the 1952 Topps checklist. Sitting at just card #4, it belongs to the very first handful of cards in the 407-card set that transformed Topps into a force within the baseball-card hobby.
