1952 Topps #62 Chuck Stobbs Black Back PSA EX-MT 6
1952 Topps #62 Chuck Stobbs Black Back PSA 6 - The Southpaw Who Stayed for the Long Haul
The 1952 Topps #62 Chuck Stobbs features the young left-hander before the majority of his Major League story had been written. Stobbs debuted with the Boston Red Sox as a teenager in 1947 and, by the time this card appeared, had already begun building a reputation as a durable arm capable of both starting and relieving.
This PSA EX-MT 6 features the Black Back variation, combining a strong grade with one of the defining reverse variations from the set’s early series. Pictured with Boston, Stobbs was still only in his early twenties—a striking fact considering his professional career had already been underway for several seasons.
Stobbs ultimately pitched across 15 Major League seasons, appearing in 459 games for the Red Sox, White Sox, Senators/Twins franchise, and Cardinals. He won 107 games and logged more than 2,000 innings, remaining a regular presence on American League mounds throughout the 1950s. The 1952 Topps Chuck Stobbs Black Back PSA 6 catches him well before that longevity was apparent—a young southpaw whose career was only beginning to unfold.
