1952 Topps #63 Howie Pollet Black Back PSA 4 - An Ace from St. Louis’ Championship Years
The 1952 Topps #63 Howie Pollet features a left-hander who had already enjoyed some remarkable seasons before this card ever reached collectors. Pollet emerged as a star for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1940s, becoming an important member of the club’s powerhouse wartime teams and helping St. Louis capture the 1942 and 1946 World Series championships.
This PSA VG-EX 4 features the Black Back variation and pictures Pollet after his move to the Pittsburgh Pirates. His résumé was already substantial: in 1946, he led the National League with 21 victories, a 2.10 ERA, and five shutouts, finishing fourth in MVP voting as the Cardinals returned to the top of baseball.
Pollet earned three All-Star selections and finished his 14-year Major League career with 131 victories and a 3.51 ERA. At his best, he was much more than simply a reliable starter—he was a legitimate ace on a championship club. The 1952 Topps Howie Pollet Black Back PSA 4 presents that accomplished pitcher in a different uniform and a new chapter, years removed from his St. Louis peak but carrying the résumé of a two-time World Series champion.
