1952 Topps #65 Enos Slaughter Black Back PSA 3 - Country Slaughter in Cardinal Red
The 1952 Topps #65 Enos Slaughter features one of the great Cardinals of his generation, already more than a decade into a career defined by relentless effort and winning baseball. Nicknamed “Country,” Slaughter had been a fixture in St. Louis since 1938, with three years of military service during World War II representing the only interruption to his remarkable Cardinals run.
This PSA VG 3 features the Black Back variation and comes from another excellent season for the veteran outfielder. Slaughter batted .300 in 1952 and earned an All-Star selection, proving that at age 36 he remained an important piece of the St. Louis lineup. His aggressive style of play made him a fan favorite and gave rise to the phrase “Cardinal Hustle.”
Slaughter became a 10-time All-Star, collected 2,383 hits, and finished with a .300 lifetime average across 19 Major League seasons. His defining moment came in Game 7 of the 1946 World Series, when his famous “Mad Dash” from first base scored the championship-winning run against Boston. Inducted into Cooperstown in 1985, Slaughter remains forever linked to Cardinals history. The 1952 Topps Enos Slaughter Black Back PSA 3 showcases a Hall of Famer who played every trip around the bases like the World Series depended on it.
