1952 Topps #72 Karl Olson Black Back PSA EX-MT 6
1952 Topps #72 Karl Olson Black Back PSA 6 - A Young Red Sox Outfielder on the Rise
The 1952 Topps #72 Karl Olson presents a young Boston outfielder before he had truly settled into the Major Leagues. Olson first appeared with the Red Sox in 1951, joining a roster filled with established Boston names while beginning a big-league career that would eventually carry him through much of the decade.
This example is graded PSA EX-MT 6 and features the Black Back variation. At just 22 years old when the set was issued, Olson represents the opposite end of the spectrum from many of the veteran stars surrounding him on the checklist—a developing player pictured at the very beginning of his Major League journey.
Olson remained with Boston through 1955 before later playing for the Washington Senators and Detroit Tigers, appearing in more than 500 Major League games overall. His most productive season came with the Red Sox in 1953, when increased playing time allowed him to establish himself as a regular contributor in the outfield. The 1952 Topps Karl Olson Black Back PSA 6 gets there before all of it—an early card of a 22-year-old Red Sox prospect with nearly his entire Major League career still in front of him.
