1963 Topps #13 Frank Ryan PSA 7 - The Brain Behind the Browns’ Last Title
Frank Ryan may not be the flashiest name among vintage quarterbacks, but his impact on the Cleveland Browns is carved into the franchise’s proudest chapter. A cerebral signal-caller with a doctorate in mathematics and a sharp command of the huddle, Ryan took over under center in the early 1960s and led the Browns to their last NFL Championship in 1964. That title run included Ryan throwing 25 touchdown passes that season and guiding Cleveland to a legendary 27–0 shutout of the Baltimore Colts—cementing his status as a cool, capable leader in one of football’s most decisive upsets.
The 1963 Topps #13 card captures Ryan just before the Browns' championship breakthrough, making it an especially significant early-career issue. Set against Topps’ familiar two-image layout—with a full-color portrait and inset action photo—the card reflects the bold visual styling of the era. In PSA 7, this example retains excellent eye appeal, with clean borders, strong color, and only light corner or surface wear consistent with the grade. It's a solid mid-to-high-grade specimen from a set known for print imperfections and centering challenges.
